Pure Pinoy

The Bluewater name is a 21-year-old institution, rooted in the original beach front property in Maribago, Mactan Island, Cebu. The group has since grown to include the private island getaway of Sumilon, fronting the town of Oslob in Southern Cebu. In 2011, the Bluewater brand expands to include a brand new 5.5 hectare resort in Panglao Island, on the neighboring province of Bohol.

The three properties, now collectively known as the Bluewater Resorts, are distinct from each other in many ways: Maribago’s decades-old foliage and homey feel make it the ultimate staycation destination, a quick escape that is mere minutes from the bustling commercial center that is Metropolitan Cebu. Sumilon Island, accessible by a three-hour roadtrip through storied Southern towns of Cebu and their myriad native delicacy stopovers, is famous for its moveable white sandbar that shifts location with the seasons. Panglao, the newest and first venture in Bohol, dips literally into the waters of a travel destination that seems to hold inexhaustible surprises beyond the Tarsiers and Chocolate Hills. But they are similar in one aspect.

Bluewater Resorts is 100% Pinoy: from corporate offices to service staff, it is the unique Filipino spirit that drives the brand into its next decade. Set against the world-class amenities of a luxury destination, Bluewater’s homegrown soul—from its signature Modern Filipino design to the service standards that are second to none—truly shines.

To mark the entry of the brand into its Silver year, a transformation begins with a new logo that carries the same triumphant story. The legend of a young Lapulapu, future chieftain of Maktan (now Mactan), and his friendship with seven dolphin calves that he saves from death, are depicted. The same dolphins, said to protect the waters from invaders—even fighting off Magellan and his troops—are the embodiment of the water spirits of Maktan, and remain the centerpiece of the logo. They are now lined up to face right in a single, clean arc…in varying shades of blue, the transparency allowing an illusion of depth and multiplicity in action.

The Bluewater name, placed prominently above each of the properties, now anchors an identity that champions a quiet but indelible cultural shift into the New Filipino Class.
